Complex Injuries/Therapy
We work with clients suffering from a range of complex injuries:
The Alder Associates paediatric case management team provide services to young clients who have undergone a life-changing injury or accident, together with their wider families. When children are left with cognitive, physical, behavioural or emotional changes, it can be difficult to know where to turn for help and support. That’s where our experienced and caring case managers come in. It’s our mission to facilitate rehabilitation and recovery for paediatric clients and their loved ones through a hands-on, empathetic, nurse-led approach.
- Spinal injuries affecting the back and neck can cause movement and sensation loss, pain and weakness in the affected areas. Treatment and rehabilitation is required to help the child and their family to adjust to their new way of life.
- Cerebral palsy can occur because of an injury to the brain, before, after or during birth. Children with this condition may experience sensory and communication issues, reduced motor function, cognitive difficulties, epilepsy and challenging behaviours. With our support, family members will begin to understand the injury’s long-term impact and will receive specialist advice about equipment, therapy and education.
- Orthopaedic injuries and amputation can occur after an accident and can have a major impact on the child’s ability to live their daily life. We can help by putting in place a rehabilitation package that includes a treating therapist, intervention plans with therapy that can be delivered by the care team, pain management, daily living and fitness activities and gait re-education.
Which therapies can we help with?
Each paediatric client has their own unique needs, so every rehabilitation package that our case managers put together is tailored specifically to their individual requirements. Nevertheless, we can help with a range of beneficial therapies including:
- Occupational health therapies to help children to overcome the barriers that may prevent them from accessing everyday activities and promote independence. Including supporting accommodation needs and housing adaptations.
- Speech and Language therapy to assist with problems in communication whether it is speaking it, understanding it, or learning non-verbal means of communicating, along with swallowing difficulties and supporting safe eating.
- Physiotherapy to help manage the physical problems that have occurred due to the accident or injury including restoration of movement and reduction of pain.
- Neuropsychology therapy for the child and family to provide emotional support to deal with the events that have led to the rehabilitation.
